Typhoon Kompasu and Orienteering in Koreastan
Hi Folks and Long-Term Fans (maybe not so long-term anymore)!
It seems that I'm always apologizing for these long periods of 'silence.' Well, not today. You see, I returned to Korea last Tuesday, just in time for Typhoon Kompasu. This meant water outages and power outages. We lost water the evening before the storm hit due to a damaged water main, courtesy of the previous typhoon. This meant Mom and Dad were using water out of the dehumidifier to flush toilets -- pretty ingenious if you ask me. Then, the morning the storm hit, we got our water back but the power went out. And, it stayed out for two long days. But, it wasn't horrible. Dad didn't have work and ended up spending quite a bit more time home with me.
Just so you know, I'm pretty convinced that I have the best dad in the world. I know most kids are probably convinced that their dads are the best, but I guess that's all that counts. Dang, I was so happy to see him at the Seoul Airport. He looked like the same good ol' dad. When we got on the bus from the airport to base, I just passed out in his lap. I could finally relax. By the way, I'm pretty sure that I set a new record for not sleeping on an international flight. Out of the twelve hours on that plane, I only slept maybe two. Beat that, toddlers! And, I made it off the plane alive. Mom didn't ditch me.
Actually, I think the Korean stewardesses irritated her more than my brief screaming episode. But, she took care of them in a most diplomatic manner, "You see, ma'am, I understand that his screaming is bothering the other folks. But, I ain't really taking this flight by choice! We're dependents of the American military, and guess what? You know why your country hasn't been overrun by a socialist horde from the North?" I'm not really sure the Korean stewardess (who was not that attractive) really understood what my mom said. But, Mom let her have it, nonetheless.
Yes, thankfully, Dad met us at the airport. Part of me wonders how Dad would have reacted to the flight stewardesses. Speaking of Dad, I love hanging out with him. We can finally do guy stuff. For example, he taught me how to crash my cars and make the appropriate sound effects. Why didn't I think of this before? As the cement truck plummets off the couch in a ball of flames, I can now actually hear the explosions! My pick-up truck rear-ends my Corvette concept car, and there is the distinct shattering and clanging noises. Dad also builds some great towers out of blocks. He builds; I destroy. We're a great team. I've introduced Dad to Tow Mater, and I think Dad's becoming a fan. He even figured out how to put my Tow Mater Tall Tales on the big screen.
Oh, Horatio was still locked out of my room when I got here. Dadgum Albert. But, it sure was great to see my zoo. Locke brought them all some souvenirs. I haven't really talked about Mountbatten much, but he came back with us. Don't worry, he didn't find a girlfriend in Texas or California. He did do quite a bit of exploring. They got to drink Orange Juliuses yesterday, and boy were they a happy crew. So, they're back to sitting on the veranda, sipping drinks, and engaging in the most mind-numbing intellectual/scientific/economic discussions. The latest: Cold Fusion. What the heck?!
